'Improvised': An exhibition of installations by Zoe Schoenherr

About

Through repetition, our interaction with the built environment semi-consciously adjusts. We learn how to position our feet to stop our bodies slipping if the floor is smooth or how to use our bodies as a weight to move an object or to maintain balance. This interaction with place is what I consider to be performative actions with buildings or the equipment of the everyday. 'Improvised', is an exhibition that displays a series of playful, site-responsive and experimental works. The show is based on the idea of how a dancer's movement speaks of feeling space. Therefore the works are physical manifestations of an attempt towards giving form to Potential space - the combination of concrete reality and imaginative thoughts - and are based on the notion that the experience of familiar buildings is fragmented, reductive and whole only through the imagination.
