The three collections of Berlin-based artists Karina Villavicencio, Mari Poller and Stephanie Hanna document social observations, each in different media.

About

Mari Poller searches for the story behind the unified posing of young women in their bedrooms in images posted on social media. Karina Villavicencio studies corporal gestures of volunteering people of diverse regional, gender and other backgrounds. Stephanie Hanna extracts essential advice for  good life from audio recordings of street conversations with strangers. These three collections point to the immaterial, emphasize that which is often overlooked and challenge the viewer and listener to become actively receptive and position themself.

Artists:

Mari Poller is a German Berlin based multidisciplinary artist. She holds an MA in Archeology from the University of Bonn, an MA in Art History from Humboldt University and a Master in Fine Arts from the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee/ Academy of Art. She has worked as an Archaeologist across Europe and the Middle East, and as an artist, her work has been presented in galleries and festivals across Europe and the US, including the Galerie des Westens, Festival Miradas de Mujeres, and MECA Mediterráneo Centro Artístico.

Karina Villavicencio is a performance artists who draws, take photos and does research. The pivotal point of her work is her personal story. As Argentinian living between France and Germany, she is approaching concepts such as shifting, migration and frontiers, encounter with the other and memory. She works with hair and wool and elements that are easy to carry around. Currently she lives in Berlin and actively organizes manifold platforms and artistic festivals and addresses gender problematic.

Stephanie Hanna works situation-specifically and mostly outside of the usual art context with new and old media such as audio, video, spatial installations and performance. She studied stage and costume design at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee and Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht and holds an MA „Art in Context“ from the University of the Arts Berlin. With her project „senior street art“, she facilitated workshops and participative actions around graffiti and street art for people above 50 years at institutions such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Autostadt Wolfsburg and with ibk kubia at Akademie Remscheid between 2005 and 2012. Since 2011, she improvises shifting constellations of objects and images in unannounced performances in the department store window Donau Ecke Ganghofer in Berlin, Neukölln - and about half of the time, she invites guest artists to experience their work at this specific location.
