Artist tour: 6th Oct 14:00-16:00 ImaginHer is an exhibition of paintings by Maryam Hashemi and Kevina Labonne and cuarted by Maria Kheirkhah. Through their imaginative approach, and empowered by the paintbrush, Maryam Hashemi and Kevina Labonne use their intensely colourful palettes to create and narrate the self, and the other. While Labonne, painterly manipulates the doll in order to reveal a profound exploration of the abject; Hashemi uses a visual humour that is bittersweet to explore her position as an artist of the diaspora, to make sense of the world surrounding her. In both, the visual narrative remains vivid, relevant and true to their existence. Kevina Labonne is a Figurative painter from Mauritius, now living and working in London. Her work involves the expression of emotional and bodily states, as she depicts figures in existential woe. She is currently completing a practiced-based PhD in Fine Art at Middlesex University. Maryam Hashemi is a London based artist from Iran, now living and working in London. She uses her own image and female body as the main subjects to explore her subconscious or portray the extremes which gives her work a surreal quality. 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning 198 Railton Road SE24 OJT tel: +44(0)207 978 8309 fax: +44(0)207 737 5315 e-mail: info@198.org.uk www.198.org.uk
