Solo show by Anna-Bella Papp.

About

It is said that works of art can change our way of thinking. Our way of thinking can, in turn, change the meaning of works of art.

The exhibition comprises three works that were conceived as part of an ongoing series of writings in which the artist endeavours to describe the multiplicity of relationships one can have with art and creative activities at large.

The three short stories evolve around fictional characters shown in the process of reviewing photographs that were either taken by themselves or of which they are the subjects of, and who are depicted at times in the role of photography personified as well.

Anna-Bella Papp (b. 1988) draws her inspiration from her immediate surroundings by making intuitive choices in terms of subject matter, depending on what attracts her the most and has an inevitability to it. Over the past years, she has been working mainly on an open ended series of works in clay, trying to unfold the possibilities offered by the material and her imagination within a restrained format. Guided by the same ideas, as of more recently, she has been focusing on expanding the scope of her work through a writing based practice.

Born in Romania, Papp studied in Cluj, where she received a B.F.A. Her work has been subject of solo exhibitions at Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London (2013 and 2015); Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas (2014); Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen (2015); Spazio Cabinet, Milan (2016); deAteliers, Amsterdam (2016); Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Milan (2017). And she has participated in various group exhibitions internationally. She is currently based in Belgium.
