Illuminiation by Rachel Hoath and Gina Lelliott
As the days get shorter and nights get longer it is nice to know Murmurations gallery is putting on a show to light up and brighten the forthcoming months. Illumination is a joint exhibition from two established Bexhill based artists – Rachel Hoath and Gina Lelliott, who have both chosen Bexhill as a location to set up their studios and make their artwork.
Rachel Hoath is a trained fused and cast glass artist and has exhibited widely with Pure Arts, Hastings Art Forum, Hailsham Arts Festival and South East Open Studios. She works from her home studio based in Bexhill creating unique and individual one off pieces taking elements from the sea and the surrounding landscapes. She also runs workshops where people from all over Sussex and Kent come over to learn how to make unique range of fused glass artworks and jewellery. Whereas Gina Lelliott is a multi-disciplinary artist, working as an independent practitioner with works that includes 2D and 3D work that ranges from the very small to large installations. Often described as eclectic, her inspiration for her art is derived from a myriad of sources ; incorporating many practices in her work from painting, printmaking, collograph, textiles and fusing to large 3D work including mixed-media assemblages, glass, ceramics and installation. This body of new work involves incorporating textiles with assemblages, stitch textiles and a process of fabric fusing. Gina is a member of SoCo Artists group, which is a professional group of artists based in East Sussex, and exhibit regularly in a wide range of venues. Both artists welcome the opportunity that Murmurations is offering to local artists. When asked, Rachel replied “As artists we crave the creative process of making something new. So it is great to have venues like Murmurations on our doorsteps to showcase our work. It provides us with opportunities and new audiences and when asked to do a show by the gallery, we jumped at the chance. We hope people like the new body of work we have made.”
The gallery is planning its programming calendar for 2017 and are offering opportunities for artists and curators with interesting and engaging projects/exhibitions. If you wish to exhibit or have an idea or would like more information, then do get in touch firstname.lastname@example.org
Gallery is open 10.30am-4.30pm Tuesday- Sunday. All artworks are available for sale during and after the exhibition.
