About

I'll sit slightly behind you is a double act featuring new collages, folded photographs, a video performance and a cannibalistic contract by Chantal Faust and Paul Knight. I'll sit slightly behind you explores the possession of intimacy and the intimacy of possession. Photographs are folded, figures collide and are conjoined in fantastical mutations. Relationships are forced through contact, dissection and acts of ventriloquism. Knight's digital collages represent a merger between found images of nature and pornographic tableaux. Photographs of couples in resting embrace are folded and overlapped to create a three-dimensional abstraction of figure and form. A delicious pact between artist and lover is entombed within a vitrine. Faust's video projection continues the question of an assumed intimacy via proximity, culminating in a recital of a Slavoj Zizek lecture, heard and interpreted without rehearsal within various stages of domestic setting. The performance is accompanied by scanned images that illustrate the pressure of touch and a rupture of surface.
