Top Selling Korean Artist Ilhwa Kim Opens ‘Sensory Portrait’ Exhibition in London (April 2018)
Contemporary Asian artist Ilhwa Kim opens another solo show entitled ‘Sensory Portrait’ in London this month with the HOFA Gallery in London.
Ilhwa has exhibited worldwide and gained an enviable reputation in art circles across the globe. Her works has been exhibited on major art fairs such as Art Basel Miami, Scope NY, Tefaf, Master Piece and many museums, such as, Seonam Art Museum in Seoul, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Arte Place, Guangzhou Opera House, China.
The exhibition is for two weeks, starting 3rd – 17th April 2018 at HOFA Gallery, 30 Royal Opera Arcade, St James, London, SW1Y 4UY.
Ilhwa Kim’s spellbinding ‘Sensory Portraits’ are constructed from tens of thousands of seed units; Korean mulberry paper is meticulously hand dyed, cut and rolled to create individual ‘seeds’. Each seed has its own unique properties - curves and lines - making a tiny single universe within the boundaries of each work.
The tightly packed surface appears to gently roll and recede in waves, coming into sharp focus before disappearing into the abyss. Ilhwa’s playful works toy with conventional perspective, seemlessly combining the worlds of sculpture and painting. The viewer might spot subtle impressions of forms – eyes, hearts and humans – swirling on the three dimensional surface.
The multicoloured masterpieces are a feast for the viewers’ eyes, a painting in which you are drawn into a festival of colour with an ever-changing dialogue of light changing from morning to night.
Art Advisory Consultant and Co -Founder of HOFA Gallery Simonida Pavicevic, said, “We are very proud to represent Ilhwa Kim, world renowned artist and one of the most exciting contemporary Asian artists of our time. Kim creates beauty and intrigue in each individual piece of work, allowing the viewer to indulge in a sensory delight; floating on a whirlpool of colour, light and contrasts.”
