The works selected for this montage approach pictorial issues related to the trompe l’oeil, realism, the history of painting, and self-representation. Parting from the use of realist representation, these proposals make the represented theme coincide with the pictorial matter. In an endeavor to question the ontological divergence between reality and the pictorial fact, this section casts suspicion on that which is hidden behind reality, either revealing or concealing itself through the phenomenological experience of painting. Unlike the thesis of Greenberg, which supposes that all academicism is kitsch because it imitates the effects of art before the procedures, this selection delves into the repertoires of historical painting in order to question the co-dependency between procedures of representation in light of the theme being represented versus the reality.
