Pictoconstructions is the second show of "The Retinal Umbilical Cord"

About

This exhibition section consists of a selection of pictorial works that are industrial–constructivist– in nature that make use of the praxis of collage and assemblage, as well as fragmented figuration and composition by planes. This thematic section questions the formalist supposition that a painting may be defined as a two-dimensional entity attached to the wall. Parting from works that tend to be displaced from the wall into the surrounding space, this section contains pictorial proposals that conjugate the retinal with the construction of objects and installations. These gestures contradict the formalist notion of "flatness" that Greenberg defended in the decade of the 60's. They also present works that even when they are two-dimensional, rely on compositions akin to the pictorial collage, fragmentation, or the reference and inclusion of resources that are literary or rather, appropriated from comics and pop culture.
