AboutHerrick Gallery is proud to present 'If I Were The Queen' by Maria Teresa Gavazzi, a beautiful new book featuring photographic portraits from a series of performative actions orchestrated by Gavazzi during the Jubilee celebrations in London 2012.
How does it feel to be the Queen? This book of portraits documents a series of performative actions that took place during May & June 2012 in London, aiming to provoke and question how each of us would have felt if we were born into the royal family and became Queen.
Over 175 people of all ages took part in a series of performative actions, sitting for a photographic portrait wearing a replica of the Imperial State Crown, considering which emotions to expose or conceal, when posing and ponderingâ¦âIf I Were The Queen'.
Performances were staged at three locations, to catch the perspective of a variety of people. The settings had different backgrounds, red, white and blue, to distinguish locations and recall the colours of the Union Flag:
⢠Red, with the art crowd against a cloth in a tent at the Art Car Boot Fair, 27th May 2012
⢠White, with artists and friends against an interior wall at Herrick Gallery, 2nd - 3rd June 2012
⢠Blue, with passers-by against a street wall at Tufnell Park, 4th - 6th June 2012
