Forming part of UP Projects' commission Nine Songs for Nine Elms, by artist Lucy Cash, this event brings together two distinctly different places within the new development of Nine Elms as a way of thinking through a creative and re-generative use of shared community spaces.
About
Forming part of London Festival of Architecture - The RCA's new project space; StudioRCA at Riverlight - offers a creative space within the landscape of new development, whilst the community roof garden on the Doddington Estate is an imaginatively regenerated former car-park roof that offers a space for growing plants and food as well as a space for relaxation and contemplation.
The event brings together 3 voices all working within and around the Doddington and Rollo Estate: curator Louisa Knight (also organiser of the Doddington Roof Garden), architectural designer and writer Phil Pawlett Jackson, (contributor to SpaceMax project on the Doddington and Rollo Estate and author of "Towards a Gardened Estate, Regenerating the Doddington Estate, Battersea") and Lucy Cash an interdisciplinary artist with a socially engaged practice currently working on a commission from UP Projects exploring heritage narratives, local stories and memories which celebrate the diverse history of the local area.
'If I don't grow lettuces, I can't write poems' takes the form of a talk and workshop activity across the two sites. A guided walk between these two spaces will form the bridge between the two parts of the event.
Nine Songs for Nine Elms is a Berkeley Homes commission curated and produced by UP Projects in association with Wandsworth Council’
