If... Hayley Lock

G39 is pleased to present the first instalment of If…., a new programme of exhibitions giving artists opportunities to show new work to a new audience. Throughout the season, the ground floor project space will be utilised on an interim basis, allowing selected artists to experiment and expand on their current practice. Hayley Lock is using this opportunity to create a new project using experimental sound as abstracted conversation, something that she has not yet exposed her audience to, until now. Hayley's practice is based on reproduction, reconfiguration and souvenirs. For the last year she has developed a number of works depicting characters from her imaginary world, characters who have evolved from childhood memories and dark longings, appropriation and reconfiguring existing ideas. These works take on many guises. They rarely remain static. The pieces are worked over and over for a prolonged period of time, allowing for constant reinvention to an often-bizarre, outlandish end.
