About
This talk draws on the feminist artist Ida Applebroog’s Mercy Hospital drawings to discuss her work’s relationship to themes of breakdown, catastrophe, and ageing.
This is an accompanying event to the Freud Museum’s current exhibition, ‘Ida Applebroog: Mercy Hospital’, on until 7 June 2020.
Jo Applin is Reader and Head of the History of Art Department at The Courtauld Institute of Art, London. She has published widely on contemporary art, particularly on the work Ida Applebroog and her ‘Mercy Hospital’ series.

The season spans two major exhibitions at the Freud Museum: ‘Ida Applebroog: Mercy Hospital’ (29 February – 7 July 2020) and ‘Muriel Gardiner’ (June – October 2020), both celebrated for challenging the structures of society and pushing boundaries in the name of activism.
