An exhibition of new contemporary paintings inspired by some of the world’s biggest names in music including David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, by Gravesend based painter Stuart Dalzell.

About

An exhibition of new contemporary paintings inspired by some of the world’s biggest names in music including David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed by Gravesend based painter Stuart Dalzell.

This is Dalzell’s first show after an absence of seven years and sees the unveiling of new seven new, large scale paintings fusing his passion for music with his love for art - creating a visual 'Greatest Hits' of his favourite era in rock ’n’ roll.

The seven classic albums which inspired each of the paintings include:

Electric Warrior by T.Rex

Transformer, by Lou Reed

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie

Raw Power by Iggy Pop

Creatures of the Street by  Jobriath

The New York Doll by New York Dolls

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie

All seven paintings use a combination acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal and mixed media. Each painting is an impressive 5ft high and 4ft wide.

Dalzell has been especially enthralled by the genius of David Bowie who became his idol after seeing him in concert in 1973 nearby in Chatham, Kent. Since then Dalzell has seen Bowie perform in venues across the world.

In 2016 Dalzell was featured in the V&A Museum’s documentary, David Bowie is Happening, celebrating the David Bowie historical archive. He also contributed to the recent publication, My Bowie Story by Dale K. Perry.

The exhibition transfers to London’s Clerkenwell Gallery for a limited run from Tuesday 24 July until Saturday 28 July. Private view on the evening of 24 July.

Each painting is for available for sale and can be viewed online at www.stuartdalzell.co.uk

In addition, signed limited edition prints are also available for purchase.
