Coinciding with Selina Mayer’s exhibition, Icons: A Portrait Sacrarium to Sex Workers’ Rights, FemmeDaemonium's candlelit evening opens up anther sonic ritual from sex workers into performances on iconography, censorship laws and its impact on the lives of sex workers and artists today.
About
Showcasing Selina Mayer's 'Icons' series, this candlelit sacrarium features portraits of sex workers photographed with antique plate cameras to create one-of-a kind prints. Hand embroidered with metallic thread, the work echoes traditional painted icons, but employs a skillful art form rarely recognised in the patriarchal art world. This exhibition seeks to reclaim historical iconography and patriarchal views of 'the divine feminine', Illuminating the hypocritical continuum of 'sex sells' within a post-capitalist infrastructure whilst autonomous labour in the field remains criminalised and stigmatised.
Featuring themes on: Feminine archetypes and mythologies, witchcraft and sex magick, queer sex work feminism.
FemmeDaemonium's candlelit evening opens up anther sonic ritual from sex workers into performances on sex work iconography, censorship laws and its impact on the lives of sex workers and artists today. Join this sacred space in the fight for decriminalisation, where 50% of all work sold and donations made will directly pay into the Sex Worker Advocacy Resistance Movement Mutal Aid Hardship Fund - a charity supporting the safety and survival of living sex workers today.Mayer’s exhibition, presented by FemmeDaemonium, is scheduled as part of the 2022 Sex Work Strike.
