Celebrating a different approach to traditional and modern Japanese ceramic techniques this is a unique exhibition from two well established potters. Mieko Sagisaka is a potter from Tokoname, a historic pottery town in Japan and Pat Southwood, from Norwich, here in the U.K.
Not only celebrating ceramics, the exhibition also celebrates a 15 year friendship between two women potters from across the globe. They first met at the opening party of the IWCAT residency in 2009 in the pottery town of Tokoname, Japan. Pat had been selected as a participant in the long standing I.W.C.A.T. ceramic residency. This was a 6 week ceramic artists residency in Tokoname, with 10 participants from across the World. The visiting potters stayed with local residents and were totally immersed in the life of the historic pottery town, leading to an exhibition of work at the Ceramic Festival at the end of August. Their friendship continues over the years with visits and as many catch ups as often as can be managed. The internet provides an ideal media for exchanges of ideas and techniques.
In October 2023 Mieko and Pat were invited to exhibit together by the Cera Gallery in Tokoname, this was a busy and successful exhibition, with many old friendships being renewed within the pottery town.
Both artists will be at Mandell’s Gallery on the opening day on Saturday the 7th of September from 12 -3 pm and welcome you to join them for this unique exhibition.
