For the third edition of their yearly Art Safari, The Chelsea Cross have invited artist Ian Rayer-Smith to exhibit a series of 20 new abstract paintings, each one displayed within a different luxury showroom on the cross of Fulham Road and Old Church Street.
About
Ian Rayer-Smith spent the last six months creating a series of 20 paintings for the Chelsea Cross Art Safari - a very unique exhibition where each work is displayed in a different venue along the Fulham Road, turning the street into a gallery and the art exhibition experience into a safari!
These large scale expressive abstract paintings explore the ideas around landscape that are void of time and place: "I wanted to create a range of artworks that projected a lively and energetic approach to painting. Creating unfamiliar worlds"
Strongly influenced by the abstract expressionists but also by the romantic light of the Old Masters, Ian Rayer-Smith’s paintings effortlessly fuse abstraction with the figurative and the surreal.
Using classical references, he manipulates and transforms them until they lose their initial context and produce new meaning, ultimately revealing the physicality and sensory nature of the materials.
The Chelsea Cross is an essential London destination for the design cognoscenti. A close knit community of specialist showrooms, each offering their own brand of luxury, from bespoke furniture to antiquarian books, hand-made wallpaper to silver and antiques, perfectly complemented by Ian Rayer-Smith's paintings.
