M1 Fine Art is proud to present a solo exhibition of Ian Lawrence’s latest collection, 'Gilt Complex'. Ian’s vibrant paintings strike a balance between painterly abstraction, rich passages of colour and delicate elements of nature.
About
This exhibition is more completely concerned with colour than any of his previous exhibitions, the inclusion of gold adding to the range and possibilities of the paintings. The idea of gilding a canvas and using this as a base for painting was borne of Ian’s many years working as a restorer. With its connotations of wealth, godliness and sunshine, gold has been used for centuries, from the early icons through to the paintings of Klimt. Generally, it is used as a block but in these paintings, Ian is doing something different; he is creating an almost holographic surface.
In line with Government guidlines, hand sanitiser should be used upon entry and face coverings are advised but are not mandatory. Admission is free for all and you do not need to book in advance.
