Surface Gallery continues its support of Nottingham's Street Art scene with a new solo exhibition from emerging artist Ian Fink.

About

Reviewing Fink's past works reveals an artist with a strongly developed sense of identity, reappropriating popular culture with informed critique of authority. Fink is not afraid to ask difficult questions and this attitude continues in 'Unsuitable', in which he challenges the ‘modern cultural atmosphere of universal acceptance’...

“In a contemporary society where it is generally considered that 'anything' can be regarded as art, the question must be asked as to what could possibly be deemed 'unsuitable' within such an all embracing cultural attitude.

This is a void I am proud to have inadvertently filled.

The scapegoat has returned after decades in the social wilderness,

and this is my report”.

In an intriguingly mysterious manner, Fink has elected to keep his answer secret until the opening night, but attendants can expect a demonstration of tuned-in Street Art with controversial, political and artistic commentary.

Surface Gallery's Street Art events have "become favourites in the city's exhibition cycle", as Leftlion noted. With last year's Street Art Open attracting record visitors, Surface Gallery is proud to welcome back one of the show's most striking artists. Visitors to the gallery will also recall Fink's earlier solo in the gallery's alternative space, Le Loovre.

‘Unsuitable’ will run in conjunction with two other exhibitions; Bob Robinson’s Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, Part 2, in the Project Space, along with Surface resident Chiara Dellerba's show in our Le Loovre microgallery.

The exhibition launches on Friday the 28th of November from 6pm till 9pm, and will feature live music from Elocin, and of course, a donations bar with bottled ales from our sponsors over at Springhead Brewery.
