About

Borstal Space proudly presents Swiss artist Marcel Meury in his first solo exhibition in the UK. Initially trained as a photographer Marcel Meury's work will often occur through strenuous physical tasks that undergo a reductive process in order to formulate synthesised material outcomes. 'I WENT' is the physical manifestation of Marcel's laborious and painstaking collecting of bones from the areas of E1 and E2 over a period of several weeks. In the next coming weeks the exhibition will be used to generate a series of lectures and events that will occur with the Borstal Space. With the aim of discussing issues internal and external to the work these events will be conducted by a variety of individuals whose profession is removed from the art world. _ From 1992 to 1996 Marcel Meury, born in 1975, trained as a photographer. He then acted as an assistant to various photographers and worked as a location scout for advertising and fashion, until launching his own careers as a freelance photographer and artist in 1999. The following 7 years he lived and worked between Zurich and Berlin. Since 2006, he has been a student at the University of Arts Zurich, studying for a BA Fine Arts. His photographic works have been shown in various exhibitions and have been published in magazines such as Hochparterre and Wallpaper. In 2006 the gallery Widmer & Theodoridis contemporary in Zurich presented selected works in mixed media, and in 2007 the city of Zurich opted for his video Der mit dem Baum wankt for a public art project in the football stadium Letzigrund in Zurich. Marcel Meury now lives and works in Switzerland.
