An exhibition bringing together the work of six London based photographers (Caroline Södergren, Jess Smith, Karl Ohiri, Marta Sanches Costa, Riikka Kassinen & Yasuyo Miyake) exploring the theme of absence and presence within photography
About
Photography can be thought of as a ‘medium of absence’, a medium, which can only show us the past. Between the image and the viewer is the gulf of time, the lack of presence. How to fill that gap?
The exhibition creates a common space for the photographers' independent ideas, reveals different approaches to photographic aesthetics and it gives insight into the inspirations that made each artists use photography as an art medium. Thus, the exhibition shows not only beautiful photographs, it also hints at the artists' personal stories and the way these are reflected in their work.
Some of the work has been created as a reflection of the photographers’ worldview, a personal and direct representation of their perspective. Others have chosen strategies, which obscure any obvious connection between the author and the finished piece.
