I SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH
The minutes of footage uploaded of the Syrian conflict to YouTube now exceeds the minutes passed since the conflict began.
Coinciding with IWM’s Syria: A Conflict Explored season, the award-winning creative collective ANAGRAM present I SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH at IWM North, an audio experience that will utilise IWM’s space and collections to challenge how people receive and process information. The immersive sensory experience invites visitors on a mission to investigate the nature of truth – in the museum, in the world, in our own minds.
I SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH centres on an audio tour, leading participants through the museum’s collections and displays, involving them in a provocative series of activities. From exposing the algorithms of media moguls to grappling with our cloudy internal prejudice,
I SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH is a thought-provoking experience inviting visitors to inspect how social and information networks have affected perceptions of the world we live in.
Amy Rose and May Abdalla, Directors of ANAGRAM, said: “At a time when the possibility of creating significant political change using the combination of social media and fake news is in the spotlight this experience asks where our responsibilities lie in all of this ‐ how much are we culpable for the news we are offered?”
The experience is part of IWM’s Syria: A Conflict Explored season, a series of exhibitions and events at IWM North reflecting upon the ongoing Syria conflict. The season, which runs until 28 May 2018, features Sergey Ponomarev: A Lens on Syria, the first UK exhibition of photographs addressing the consequences of the Syria conflict by award-winning Russian documentary photographer Sergey Ponomarev. Alongside this, IWM is also staging Syria: Story of a Conflict, an intimate display exploring the origins, escalations and impact of the Syria conflict. The season aims to address the complexity of the conflict in Syria and to allow visitors to gain an understanding of the origins, escalations and human impact.
