With his photographs and artistic interventions Sasha Kurmaz draws our attention to the urban public space. He explores this space and documents how the human being starts a dialog with the urban surrounding.
About
A dialog that develops despite and against any urban planning, commercial interests and aesthetic conventions. The public space is appropriated in an imperfect and ironic manner by the protagonists of his images. Like field studies Sasha Kurmaz records visual data showing us how architecture and objects are altered by this dialog in public space.
Sasha Kurmaz (1986) works and lives in Kyiv, Ukraine. He holds a BFA in design from the National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts in Kyiv and works with photography, artistic interventions and painting. His works have been shown internationally, e.g. at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw (2013), at the Centre for Arts and Media in Karlsruhe (2013), in The Vienna Künstlerhaus (2014), at the Saatchi Gallery in London (2015) and C/O Berlin (2016). His works were published in international newspapers, such as Foam, YET, Vice, Libération, Krytyka Polityczna, Bloomberg Businessweek and Rolling Stone.“
