The solo exhibition I AM STUCK, VERY MUCH, BECAUSE OF A MISSING PAGE by Ceel Mogami de Haas at SEAGER gallery.
Ranging across wall-sculpture, ceramics, CGI and writing, the works of Ceel Mogami de Haas explore the relationship between language and animals - with a preeminent focus on wolves. The wild canines make an appearance in various forms of communication an imagination, from proto-languages spanning Palaeolithic cave painting to doodles, softly hummed hunting songs and the literary tropes of the she-wolf and werewolf. One of our main tools of communication, the mouth, is also vital to process food. The wall sculptures depict this in abstracted form, showing body parts involved in the digestive system. More obvious are the little snakes that prop up these works, with a cheesy pizza slice, fried egg or sausage grasping onto the corners of their smooth surfaces.
Ceel Mogami de Haas (b. 1982) is an artist living and working in Geneva, Switzerland and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he completed the Rijksakademie residency in 2018. His work spans a range of media, from sculpture, drawing, writing, and artist’s books to installation and video art. He also co-founded the artists-run-space One Gee In Fog in Geneva and is a member of the Bookstore community programme in Amsterdam.
SEAGER is a newly established commercial art gallery located in Deptford, South East London. The programme is focused on art that uses digital technology in its process, as its product, or as its subject.
