About
Illusion is no longer possible, because the real is no longer possible. ' BaudrillardHyperrealz explores the reproductions, simulations and appropriations that feed our contemporary society. Lucid cyber-networks and cut and paste cultures fuse with vacant notions of an intangible 'reality', where existing identities are duplicated, rehashed and transformed.
Inspired by the concepts of Baudrillard ' where facsimiles transmogrify to form entirely new cultures and meanings ' Hyperrealz presents the representational as a malleable method that allows the artists to challenge the notion of the 'real' and the 'genuine' through dissemination and re-appropriation. The sense being that the further one moves down this Xerox pathway the closer one returns to an original/unique artwork.
Hyperrealz features Rosie Farrell (UK) Steve Mykietyn (US) Pola Sieverding (DE) and Daniella Valz Gen (PE)
Each artist has supplied a series of works which have been reproduced and transformed by the gallery using various technologies. This collaborative process, involving both artist and curator to produce the desired outcome, is intrinsic to the conceptual nature of Hyperrealz, but is also continually prevalent within the mission of the gallery. Bruno Glint strives to present a platform for innovative visual artists, whilst also actively encouraging and facilitating collaborations with other creative arts such as music and performance.
In keeping with this ethos, the Private View on 20th September will incorporate a responsive performance piece by Daniella Valz Gen; the launch of Mykietyn's 'Shadow Spaces' edition of Allotrope and closed door party featuring pop band 'Birthday Sex' as well as DJ sets from Scaredy Cat Soundsystem from 9pm-late.
