"You love once, I told you. Even when you love over and over again it is the same once, the same one. And you sent me your recipes – Ezra Pound Cake, Beef Mellarmé – and you wrote: Do you think if you eat one meal, every meal after that is the same meal, just because it too is a meal?” Lauren Godfrey, 2015, image courtesy of the artist

Group show with Patrick Coyle, Lauren Godfrey, Holly Graham, Lucy Joyce, Frances Scott and Nora Silva. Curated by Lola Bunting and Holly Willats.
About
53 Beck Road is an artist run project space situated in the front room of a terraced house in Hackney where artists Karen & Peter Bunting have lived and worked since the 1970s and where Johnny and Lola Bunting, also artists, grew up. Lola has directed the program at 53 Beck Road since April 2013.
The houses on Beck Road had been marked for demolition by the Greater London Council and, managed by Acme Housing Association, were rented as affordable short-term housing and work space to artists. In the late 1980s with the support of Acme, the artists on Beck Road were granted permanent residency status.
For the exhibition House Work six artist have been invited to make new work in response to 53 Beck Road: whether that be an object, a group of objects, a specific part / aspect of the house. The new works will be exhibited in the main project space: the front room, but also across the hallway, kitchen & garden – integrated into the fabric of the house they will explore the relationship between art practice, functional household objects and live/work space, alongside the history of the house and Beck Road.
House Work opens on Saturday 24 June, 5-8pm; and then runs until 9 July, open Saturday and Sundays, 12-6pm. There will be an artists' discussion event, held round the kitchen table with Lola and I, on Saturday 1 July, 3-5pm. This talk will also be broadcast live by Radio Anti.
The exhibition is funded by the Henry Moore Foundation and Arts Council England.
