About

Artists in Transit is a community of volunteers, artists and activists who work within communities delivering art workshops. Previously held in Athens, the workshops targeted refugee children and young people living in a variety of temporary accommodation. AIT was founded in 2015 by two volunteers who travelled to Kos. During their time volunteering they realised the importance of activities for children who were otherwise left uninspired with nothing to do. Pulling from joint experiences of working with refugee communities in London and teaching art to children, the group formally came together, drew up a workshop plan and returned 6 months later to work in a refugee camp.

Since then AIT's group of volunteers has grown to deliver over 80 workshops to hundreds of children in squats and centres over Athens. Workshops have consisted of painting, sewing, T-shirt printing, stencilling, mural painting, jewellery making, zine making, still life, photography and many more. AIT's aim is to deliver creative, inspiring and enjoyable workshops while offering a safe space for learning and therapeutic play.

House of Vans London is incredibly excited to collaborate with Artists in Transit to host a full day of workshops, screenings and talks.

The event will raise awareness of issues of migration, celebrate small acts of kindness as forms of solidarity and use art as a form of resistance against the ever-growing rise of attitudes and policy towards freedom of movement for ALL people.

  •  The event is free to the public with no booking required for the daytime activity. The evening activity from 7pm will be ticketed via RSVP on  houseofvanslondon.com
