Family Workshops: Really Heavy Family activities From 1 to 4 September, we'll be hosting a number of Heavy Metal themed workshops for the whole family to enjoy. ‘Rock Out' video art project Open to all ages | 11am - 3pm 1, 2 and 3 September Come along to our special drop in sessions, and help create a cool heavy metal themed video, inspired by our Home of Metal exhibition. Using music, animations and video capture you will be able add your very own high energy performance to an ongoing video that will be shown throughout our celebratory event. Interactive Metal Special Open to all ages | 11am - 3pm 1 and 2 September Help create, paint and build a Heavy Metal themed interactive sculpture with lights, sounds and some digital surprises. Public Photo Studio: 'Capture the action' Open to all ages | 11am - 3pm 1, 2, 3 and 4 September Using a high speed photoshoot, create action packed, explosive images! Rock, jump, twirl and bang your head to your favourite heavy metal classic, and capture the raw energy of a true heavy metal performance! The images captured in our fun-filled workshop will go directly on display over our weekend of celebrations. Prints of your images can be purchased and even made into some of our very special 'Make' products including mugs, coasters, t-shirts and cool dog tags. Saturday Art Club: Heavy Metal Madness For ages 3-11 | 11am - 1pm 3 September Join our themed Saturday Art Club and makes some metal inspired art including sculptuers, paintings and a giant collage. The Art of Noise - Exhibition Preview: 1-4 September 2011 A preview of The Public's Home of Metal exhibition will take place from 1 — 4 September and will feature a collection of photographs of heavy metal fans by local rock photographer Steve Gerrard. The full exhibition forms part of The Public's Art of Noise programme running from 19 October to 8 January. Live Music: Blaze Bayley and Jase Edwards Friday 2 September 2011 8.30pm | £8 adv, £10 otd Ex Iron Maiden front man, Blaze Bayley heads to The Public as part of his incredible acoustic tour. Blaze (Iron Maiden/Wolfsbane/Blaze Bayley Band) will be joined by Jase Edwards (Wolfsbane/Wildhearts) and will be performing a special unplugged show, playing acoustic versions of their favourite songs from Wolfsbane, Iron Maiden and Blaze Bayley. Film: Saturday 3 September 2pm - 3.30pm Promised Land of Heavy Metal Free Finnish metal pioneer Kimmo Kuusniemi (Sarcofagus) returns to his home country to find out how bands like Lordi took metal to the mainstream. 4pm - 6pm Sound it out Free Jeanie Finlay presents her new documentary, about Teesside's last surviving independent record shop. Home of Metal is a celebration of the music that was born in the Black Country and Birmingham, a project created and produced by Capsule.
