Chris Beetles Gallery presents this new selling exhibition of over 150 artworks by two of the greatest British landscape artists of the twentieth century.
About
In the Royal Academician Peter Coker and the fiercely independent Keith Grant, we have a body of work that shows that they are two of the most talented and important landscape painters of the post-war period.Both are drawn to the sublime scenery of the far North with occasional visual respite in the verdant South. These are their Sketching Grounds where they confront the Elements and Natural forms, and with sketch book, diary and their uniquely expressive memories, they represent the powerful asymmetries and harsh beauty of a volatile Earth.
Though their life events, both training at the Royal College of Art, then careers as inspirational teachers, and wide serial success in exhibitions, would seem to place them within the broad traditions of traditional Art, their gritty intellectual approach to life and singular personalities leave them as unique outsiders.
The result is a body of work that is striking in its originality, arresting in its natural elemental beauty, and that will last, will persist, and will satisfy in the years to come.
