Hilan Gully’s exhibition Voices explores and provokes conversations regarding representation in the climate movement.

About

The installation at OUTPUT Gallery includes a film, protest boards and an interactive poll. The film depicts 6 months of research Hilan has completed in Liverpool to explore the voices of local Middle Eastern/Arab communities regarding current climate change debates, and whether they feel they are represented in these discussions. Whilst there is a vast amount of evidence highlighting the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis in the Arab region, Voices focuses on the lack of representation, the consequences of this, and how it impacts everyday efforts by local communities in addressing the climate crisis.

While the installation aims to provide the community with a platform in climate conversations, it will also initiate conversations with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Metro Mayor on how to improve the representation within the Liverpool City Region.

Hilan Gully is an artist and producer who uses art installations to tell stories through film, sound, sculptures, and text. Hilan is currently working on the ‘Generations for Change’ programme which brings together six young people to produce a creative research project on the experiences of Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds in the Liverpool city region.

This exhibition is presented in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Metro Mayor Liverpool City Region, Curious Minds, Liverpool World Centre & Liverpool Arab Arts Festival.

There will be a launch event of the exhibition from 6pm - 8pm on Thursday, 28th October.

Please note, we are still operating a cap on numbers in the space and you may be asked to wait.

Following this, the exhibition is open daily 11am - 5pm until November 7th. The gallery is closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
