About

What Brings Us All Together?
The annual exhibition of the Highgate Watercolour Group

The members of the Highgate Watercolour Group, which was formed in 1980, are a diverse group of local artists who paint together on a weekly basis at 10a South Grove, under the auspices of the Highgate Society.  This is the first time we have shown our work 'next door' at Highgate Gallery.

We are connected by our love and practice of watercolour, regarded as the most difficult of all mediums.  The challenges are discussed and dissected at our weekly workshops when we are together at 10a on Thursdays.  Occasionally we invite a tutor to help us expand our skills on subject matter and technique.  We go on collective outings to local venues, weather permitting and further afield in summer to the countryside.

Although we are also working individually in our studios and in different media, we value the opportunity to make regular contact with other artists and resolve the great issues of the day (including, for instance, what to mix for the perfect grey, or how to delineate tree branches with a rigger).

The most important date in our calendar is the annual exhibition.  Normally held in Lauderdale House, we were made homeless this year due to Lauderdale's major refurbishment.  We are delighted therefore to be exhibiting at Highgate Gallery.  The smaller space means we are restricted to three works each, which sure concentrates the mind.  The quality will be high - only our best work is on offer.
