About
A drop-in memory gathering session to collect stories, images, memories and memorabilia connected with the Morecambe seaside holiday and guest house experience 1900-1960.
High Teas and Holidays is an exciting new art and heritage project by Johnny & Carol Bean. Together, and in partnership with The Exchange Creative Community in Morecambe’s West End we are planning to use people’s stories, memories, objects and ephemera associated with the Morecambe seaside holiday experience to inspire new artworks and events for an exhibition/installation, an artists trail, bunting and postcard making workshops to gather, share and celebrate the stories of this amazing part of our local heritage and collective memory.
We will be working with the local community, The Exchange Creative Community, Deco Publique, Morecambe Heritage, local history groups, Morecambe Artist Colony and other artists and designers to research and deliver the project.
To begin the project we will be researching the history of local guest houses, particularly in the West End, looking for tales of landladies and collecting stories written from those guest houses on postcards. As a part of the research phase, we are holding two public consultation (memory gathering) days where we are inviting people to come and chat informally and share their stories of Morecambe holidays, guest houses and more. Bring your old postcards (we are interested as much in the handwritten messages as the pictures), seaside memorabilia and other objects or just the memories you hold in your head.
