A beautiful exhibition of relief prints made directly from timber.
About
A new exhibition, ‘Hiding in the Wood’, will be coming to Grizedale during the 50th anniversary of Arts in the forest. Shona Branigan, the artist, explores her fascination with trees through original relief prints which are made by printing the wood itself. These give a glimpse into the usually unseen world and life-stories of trees.
Some of the work includes a Yew tree which started life in 1822 and a 190 year old Oak tree, found fallen in the woodlands. By burning away the softer wood, the harder wood remains to reveal the detailed life history of the tree which is then printed on cotton paper.
