Ilona Sagar has created a series of audio walks that form part of a project ‘Correspondence O’, which takes as a departure point the history and social significance of the Peckham Pioneer Centre – a radical centre established in the 1920s for the study of wellness and collective health.
About
The project uses the centre’s history and social significance to examine ideas of health, welfare and wellbeing. The walks include invited speakers and address the changing intellectual and political landscape of public health, the shift away from a collectivist, paternalistic mind-set inspired by the politics of post-war Britain to a more technological, egocentric and user-focused understanding of wellness in which the body becomes an individual object rather than part of a social whole.
The series of audio walks are free to download from The Ballad of Peckham Rye's website and also feature at DKUK Salon where the artist is exhibiting.
