Five artists reflected the 'mountain' theme. The result is 'Here Distant Vanishing', an exhibition in which studies of holy mountains, memories and new environments alternate with observations of everyday obstacles, that sometimes take the size of a mountain. The artists are Virve Lukka, Johanna Paalanen, Jonna Pennanen, Riikka Rauhala and Peter Thornton. The exhibition opens at Galerie Pleiku, Berlin, on Tuesday 8th of May 2018 and is open until 19th of May.

Japanese author and haiku poet Taneda Santōka (1882 – 1940) studied mountains and the different attitude that Westerners and people of the East have towards mountains.

Urban societies are living in an era of dualism, in which the spirit and materia are often set against each other. In a world based on achievement the Eastern ancient wisdom is one way to find peace of mind. The mountain theme inspired us to study this setting from different viewpoints and visual angles.

A mountain is a place for quiet meditation, a symbol of deepened thoughts. The ancient peacefulness and stability of mountains impresses us. A mountain gives us a direction in the horizon, it is our focal point and a goal to get to. It is a manifestation of our achievements. A mountaintop is what we can see when everything else is still in haze. The mountain is a climax of our journey within. 

The mountain is massive, the heaviest of the heavy. It is tangible, like a piece of sculpture, made of folds and billions of tiny particles. The mountain is weight, that we sometimes carry within. Ascending over everything else, a mountain peak provides a vantage point and a different perspective, unobstructed vision. In its veil of snow a mountain is the natural centre point of any landscape.

Motiv der Ausstellung „Here Distant Vanishing“ sind die Berge - ohne den Anspruch, sie zu besiegen

Fünf Künstler interpretieren das Motiv der „Berge“. Es entsteht „Here Distant Vanishing“, eine Ausstellung, in der Studien heiliger Berge, Erinnerungen und moderne Umgebungen sich abwechseln mit Beobachtungen alltäglicher Hindernisse, die ebenso die Größe eines Berges annehmen können. Die Künstler sind Virve Lukka, Johanna Paalanen, Jonna Pennanen, Riikka Rauhala und Peter Thornton. Die Ausstellung öffnet am 8. Mai 2018 in der Galerie Pleiku in Berlin und läuft bis zum 19. Mai.

Urbane Gesellschaften leben im Zeitalter des Dualismus, in dem Geist und Materie sich meist feindlich gegenüberstehen. In einer auf Leistung basierenden Welt zeigt sich die fernöstliche Weisheit als ein Weg zu innerer Ruhe. Das Motiv der Berge half uns dabei, unsere Umgebung aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu studieren.

Ein Berg ist ein Ort für stille Meditation, ein Symbol tiefster Gedanken. Die altehrwürdige Ruhe und die Dauerhaftigkeit der Berge beeindruckt uns. Der Berg weist uns die Richtung, er ist Fluchtpunkt und Ziel, zu dem wir hinstreben können. Er ist Abbild unserer Erfolge. Der Berg ist, was wir erkennen können, wenn alles andere im Nebel versinkt. Der Berg ist der Gipfel unserer inneren Reise.

Ein Berg ist massereich und von allergrößtem Gewicht. Er ist pure Materie, wie ein Brocken Skulptur, bestehend aus Kanten und Millionen winziger Partikel. Ein Berg ist auch das Gewicht, das wir manchmal mit uns tragen. Alles überragend, gewährt der Gipfel des Berges: Aussicht und eine neue Perspektive, eine unversperrte Sicht. In seinem Schleier aus Schnee ist ein Berg der natürliche Schwerpunkt einer jeden Landschaft.
