AboutHelen Bullard is a wildlife painter and research based installation maker, focusing her practice around natural history, anthropology, material culture and the animal/human divide. Since researching her recent installation 1 Fathom Deep she has become fascinated with animal communication, including the human animal. Echoing the thesis that a signal is considered communication if it is sent and received, causing both participants to change their behaviour, Helen takes a contemplative look at interspecies communication, vocal mimicry and modification, convergent evolution, gift giving, and weapons of defence. Animus flux will be an interactive installation, spanning senses and signals, and will transform the gallery into the signalling centre of the forebrain through the use of sound, light, film and sculpture.
