About

In an exchange with artist-led FLUX Factory Studios in New York, Shane Heinemier and Alison Ward have been using Islington Mill's gallery space as a studio for the past six weeks. Whilst Alison and Shane have been in residence at Islington Mill local artist Tom Watson has taken up their regular studio at FLUX Factory. The exchange has been an opportunity for Islington Mill to assist a local artist to undertake time in a different studio setting as well as introduce two New York based artists to Salford. Whilst in residence Alison and Shane have developed a series of new works. In a continuation of his painting practice Shane has been using found wood and paneling as canvas's on which he has been experimenting with his abstract technique. Inspired by the ritual of the British Hen Party and its debauch spectacle Alison has been constructing a mobile sculpture which she will take to the streets on the 30th of July in a staged Hen Party performance. For the exhibition opening Alison is exhibiting the sculpture alongside a short film that reflects the party theme, featuring a collection of artists and residents she has met whilst working at the Mill. The evening opening is part of Islington Mill's ‘Graduation Party. The evening will be filled with live music and a series of graduation performances by visiting artist David Medalla who will be awarding individual's with honorary NA's in the subject of their choice - for more information on the evening please visit www.islingtonmill.com.
