London welcomes one of Cuba’s most exciting artists to the Menier Gallery from 27 September-1 October in the first ever UK exhibition of works from Hector Frank.

About

The exhibition will feature works from Hector Frank’s ‘Portrait Series’, in which he seeks to capture the hidden feelings behind empty stares. His portraits display solid outlines of human figures that are filled with striking designs in vibrant colours. He uses collage techniques to place pieces of paper on painted canvas like a jigsaw puzzle.  The result is an expression that appears like several faces merging into one, representing the duality of both the inner being and the one that is shared with the world.  The faces he paints reveal the collective fears and struggles of individuals who are internalising challenges as a way to survive.
