This June, Surface Gallery is pleased to announce Chromatic Oscillations, a solo exhibition by Harry Martin.
About
Chromatic Oscillations explores the relationship between image and music, inspired by the daily practice of meditation. The exhibition presents a series of paintings with accompanying soundscapes to cultivate an awareness of how processes of the mind relate to the natural world. Martin uses interlocking shapes to produce abstract forms that reference structures in nature; from a single-celled organism to nebulae, these fundamental forms echo across dramatically different scales, and yet look remarkably alike. The paintings use warped, contradictory perspectives in order to displace the original viewpoint and create a sensation of groundlessness, enhanced by the flowing, ambient style of the compositions.
The exhibition will commence with a live performance on the opening night.
Chromatic Oscillations opens in the Project Space in conjunction with our annual studio artist show, Flow, in the Main Gallery. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
