An exhibition and talk looking at the relationship between the patterns in music and crystals
About
On the evening of October 6th Neu West Berlin will host the opening of Harmonic Ratios with an exhibition and interactive talk followed by a 10 day exhibition. (October 6th-16th). FREE DRINKS FOR FIRST ARRIVALS.
Have you ever looked around and thought that the world works on a microcosmic:macrocosmic level? That elements repeat themselves from snowflakes to planets? Harmonic Ratios: Music and Crystals looks at this phenomenon of the echoing of life in two of its most beautiful products: music and crystals.
From video mapping to electronic music to geometric etchings and multi-coloured installations, the Harmonic Ratios exhibition will allow people to engage in a near-full sensory experience of the internal structures of music and crystals.
6 artists will approach as many elements of the vast and magical world of the system of harmony including video mapper Kalma with her quivering black and white crystal-cubes that move with changing frequencies, electronic musician and painter Sean Revell whose specially commissioned multi-metric soundtrack will weave in an out of the twirling rainbow installation by Daniel Stempfer, and Tegan Emerson whose delicate drawings of crystalline geometric structures will be a treat for the eye and mind.
All of this will be paired with a talk that will take place on the opening night of the show (October 6th) between curator of Harmonic Ratios and musician, Juliette Wallace, musicologist, Hilary Baker, cultural expert, Stefan Höppe, and crystallographer Manfred Weiss. The question of how the internal mathematics in both music and crystals creates such external beauty will be addressed, from Pythagoras to Bjork.
