Hannah Singleton's work involves the uncovering of lost, seemingly insignificant fragments of history and their reinterpretation to gain a new understanding of the subject. The way in which collective memories of a space shift and adapt over time is here explored as the result of detailed research into the Market Square area of Preston and the gallery building itself. The âghosts' detailed are the building and streets which once existed as part of the everyday experience of the area, but have now disappeared and exist only in a fragile state of memory.
These fragments of history are presented through a variety of media (photography and text), particularly methods which now seem obsolete or overly laborious; a process through which the work comes to mirror the subject matter depicted.
