A solo exhibition of renowned Iraqi artist Hanaa Malallah's mixed media works on paper.

About

A selection of works on paper by leading Iraqi artist Hanaa Malallah is to be exhibited at The Park Gallery from 14 October – 12 December 2014. We would encourage you to take this opportunity to see some of the artist’s most recently completed works, including ‘Something I have learnt’ (see above image), a group of eight ink, digital print and mixed media works on artist’s paper.

Hanaa Malallah studied Fine Art in Baghdad with an emphasis on graphics and painting.  In 2005 her thesis concerning the logic order in Mesopotamian drawing gained her a PhD in the Philosophy of Painting. She taught and lectured at the University of Fine Arts in Baghdad from 1999 to 2006. At the end of 2006 she left Iraq for an artist residency at the Institute du Monde Arabe in Paris and from there followed the call of a fellowship offered by SOAS in London in 2008. Her works are held in numerous private collections, art centres and museums, including the Centre for Modern Art, Baghdad, the Jordan National Museum Amman, The British Museum, the Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha and the Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah. Regarded as one of Iraq’s leading and most innovative contemporary artists, she has reached international acclaim through her profoundly visceral, mixed-media compositions, the embodiment of three decades of war and violence in Iraq. Malallah’s practice is both academic and artistically intricate, resulting in large, thought-provoking mixed-media pieces. She now lives and works in London.
