About

Artist Liam Gillick presents Hamilton: A Film by Liam Gillick, 2014, to coincide with Richard Hamilton at the ICA. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the artist. Using various forms and technologies, this film is a personal examination of the work of Richard Hamilton. Particular focus is placed upon an Exhibit, a work that has had a strong influence on the development of Gillick's method and practice. Animation, computer modelling, live action footage and first person narrative are combined to show Hamilton's work from multiple perspectives. Produced to coincide with the ICA's installation of an Exhibit, the film works in parallel to the exhibition and provides an account of how Richard Hamilton's work has pervaded the thinking of the artists who have followed. Liam Gillick was born in Aylesbury, UK, 1964, and currently lives and works in New York. Forthcoming and recent solo exhibitions include: Esther Schipper, Berlin, forthcoming 2014; 199A to 199B, Le Magasin, Grenoble, forthcoming 2014; Taru Naso, Tokyo, 2013; Casey Kaplan, New York, 2013; Margin Time 2 and Laguna Discussion Platform, Austin Museum of Art, Austin, 2013; From Fredensborg to Halen via Loch Ruthven — Courtyard Housing Projections, HICA (Highland Institute of Contemporary Art), Loch Ruthven, 2013; For the doors that are welded shut, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin, 2013; Five Structures and a Shanty, Gallery IHN, Seoul; and From 199A to 199B: Liam Gillick, Hessel Museum of Art, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, 2012.
