About
Hallie Packard’s work is a study in contradictions. Her work manages to live in a singular world while exploring both a gleeful kitsch as well as a powerful conjuration of nature’s most rarified spectacles. Her work speaks to growing up in the outdoors and being beguiled by the mystical chaos of nature and our place and time within it.
Packard’s most powerful works are when she paints the effects of light in nature. There may be rainbows, but they are not referenced like children’s odes to happiness, but the magnificent power and resplendence of light. It is in Packard’s depictions of captured light that reveal a deeper, spiritual sense of wonder at the natural world. The impossible beauty of the mundane world catapults us into the realm of the numinous- the luminous glow of light refracted into rainbow colors like an oil slick across the curve of a soap bubble, the ice of a diamond twinkling in a landscape, or the glow of a rainbow captured in the stormy grey swirl of a tornado.
“‘Synthesis’ is about oneness and polarity, and the fragile tension that holds everything in balance.” – Hallie Packard
Artist Bio:
Born in 1991, Hallie Packard is a self-taught acrylic painter currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Nature, light, and the magic of this world are her muses. Packard seeks to further understand what it means to be alive by converting her feelings and emotions into visual metaphors. She aims to remind viewers of the wonder that surrounds us on our beautiful planet (and beyond) and the respect and care it deserves.
