An online magazine celebrating the history and culture of Halabja.
About
An online magazine celebrating the history and culture of Halabja.
Halabja, in Iraqi Kurdistan, is known mainly because of the terrible chemical weapons attack in 1988 by Saddam Hussein’s regime as part of the ‘Anfal’ campaign of persecution. This has overshadowed Halabja’s peaceful and illustrious past when it was called the ‘city of poets’.
This online publication, brought together by Gulan through historical research and interviews with past and current residents, is a celebration of life in Haljaba before the attack.
Created by Gulan in collaboration with the Kurdish community of Portsmouth and Portsmouth Cathedral.
