The exhibition is inspired by Silvan Architects , a local female-owned architects practice that focuses its work on building less, consume mindfully, and create sustainable ecosystems suitable for human inhabitancy, driven by the ethos of ‘sufficiency’.

Silvan - or forest, wood in Latin - conceives the house as an ecosystem “a habitat that conserves and produces energy, manages waste, produces food, and a vibrant community of living things where stories happen”, by placing attention on our animal nature, it creates habitats that are reflective of our innate connection with the natural world and offers an alternative, human-centered environment.

This approach shines a light on today’s taken-for-granted landscape: increasingly becoming urbanized as a result of a ravenous, mindless construction industry that devours green spaces and is indifferent to precious ecosystems. 

Habitat is an exhibition that strives to raise questions about the impact of urbanization on the animal world, in which we humans take part. Is the way we build silently harming us? Do we need a shift in construction culture? What is the impact of urban spaces on our perception of surrounding?
