Exhibition of new work by Welsh figurative artist Gustavius Payne.
About
Gustavius Payne is a Welsh figurative artist, represented by Ffin-Y-Parc Gallery (LLanrwst), where his work is regularly shown and held in stock. Work is also held at Fountain Fine Art (Cardiff & Llandeilo), Lion Street Gallery (Hay-On-Wye) and the Water Street Gallery, (Todmorden).
He has exhibited regularly since 1994, including an Arts Council of Wales funded collaborative touring exhibition, with poet and author Mike Jenkins during 2011-2012. He has work in a number of collections including the Museum of Modern Art Wales, University of South Wales and the Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society.
Elected to the Welsh Group in 2013, his figurative paintings use nature, animals, birds and trees, alongside hoodies, mobile phones, religious iconography and other human constructs. His diverse imagery draws from mythology and folk-lore alongside ecological and political concerns, drawing the viewer into a fascinating reflective world, set in the post-industrial Welsh Valleys.
