About
Sculpt Gallery is proud to host a debut solo exhibition of bronze sculptures by emerging Suffolk artist, Gus Farnes. Private View: Saturday 8 September, 3-5pm, with a short introductory talk by the artist at 3.45pm.
This exhibition features a collection of sculptures modelled from organic matter such as grass, leaves, flowers and reeds, bound together with wax and sculpted into figures before being cast by the artist directly into bronze. The result is a series of unique sculptures which are both shaped by and constrained by their environment, symbolising the modern diaspora.
Gus Farnes attended Norwich School of Art in 2000 where he studied sculpture and was mentored by Chris Summerfield, who assisted Henry Moore at the Royal College of Art. After leaving Norwich in 2004, Gus joined Sotheby's as proposal designer, where he learned more about art and the art market.
In 2016 Gus left Sothebys to pursue his practice as a sculptor, setting himself up in a studio/foundry formerly utilised by renowned Suffolk sculptor, Laurence Edwards.
This is the first major exhibition of Gus Farnes' work.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 29 September. Open Saturdays 11am-4pm and by arrangement.
