Event map

Deeply scarred by copper mining, the area around Tywarnhayle mine, near Porthtowan, is rich in industrial remains. This field trip, led by artists Robin Dowell and James Fergusson, sets out to develop an enhanced understanding or reading of the area – a collaborative cultivation of deep topography through the consideration of historical, ecological and cultural perspectives.

The route is approximately six and a half miles and the walk will take about four hours. The terrain is varied and participants will need to be physically able, with suitable clothing and footwear. Participants should bring a packed lunch.

Field trips will take place at intervals throughout the summer, exploring a particular terrain, history or set of ideas and bringing together participants from a range of disciplines. Opportunities to join field trips will be announced through Groundwork’s website.
