About

StolenSpace is proud to announce our inaugural solo exhibition with Minnesota based artist, Gregory Euclide. Rising to international recognition from his artwork for Bon Iver's Grammy award winning self-titled album, Euclide's art has become synonymous with his investigation of nature and the human experience. Creating beautifully intricate mixed media objects, his self contained works explore naturally occurring organic matter and artificial, found objects and materials to produce three-dimensional topographical scenes. By experimenting with the landscape tradition, Euclide creates category defying relief works that combine painting and installation with precise architectural engineering. 'Whose Land We Laid Down & Wiped Away,' will exhibit a new collection of work addressing land, nature and how we negotiate the contradictions in our way of defining these terms. In his signature style, these works reveal remote pastoral scenes, void of figurative presence, but containing an unavoidable human fingerprint. Examining man's relationship to nature, Euclide concludes When we dig from the Land everything we use to make something. When we put in the land everything we no longer want to know we made." With this statement the artist asks us to question how and why we cultivate land, and what our treatment of these spaces means to us, environmentally and psychologically.
